Session 7: Human rights lawyers dealing with authoritarian regimes, newly democratized countries, or countries in a transitional state
The purpose of this session is to examine the challenges faced by human rights lawyers in authoritarian, transitional, or newly democratized regimes, as well as possible solutions. Also, we will discuss the priorities of human rights institutions in countries undergoing democratic transitions and examine global examples of human rights lawyers’ success in such situations.
Session 6: Utilizing international aid to defend civil and human rights
During this session, we will examine how international levers can be used to defend civil and human rights.
Session 5: A review of the effective infrastructure to defend human and civil rights
In the fifth session, we will discuss the infrastructure underpinning the protection of civil and human rights for citizens, as well as the infrastructure necessary for the development of legal protection strategies.
Session 4: Goals and missions of human rights organizations
During this session, we will discuss the goals and missions that legal institutions in the field of human rights set for themselves. As we examine them, we will consider the experiences of different institutions in various countries, which can serve as a guide for Iran.
Session 3: Legal obstacles to access to a lawyer of choice in Iran
During this session, we will discuss the barriers and legal restrictions to accessing a lawyer of one’s choice in Iranian law.
Session 2: Practical obstacles to legal protection
In this session, we discuss the topic of “practical obstacles to the right to be protected by the law”, learn about appointed lawyers and legal assistance, and analyze the threats against human rights advocates. Finally, we will discuss Iranian laws that violate human rights.
Session 1: The right to access lawyers’ services under Iranian laws and international documents
The purpose of this course is to examine the structural, systemic, and social obstacles to the provision of legal aid and services to marginalized groups in Iran. In addition, we discuss effective methods for connecting those groups to lawyers and activists. Moreover, we discuss how legal aid can be provided to them.
