Roya Hakakian’s Interview on Popular Resistance to Antisemitism in Iran

In an interview at the Woodrow Wilson Center, author Roya Hakakian brings to light the popular backlash in Iran to the regime’s anti-Semitic rhetoric. She analyses Iran through the lens of the Iranian populace’s resistance to government propaganda and repression. Hakakian also recalls her own experiences with religious segregation but also the societal subversions of mandated religious segregation as a young Jewish woman in post-revolutionary Iran. She laments that while the Iranian population has grown increasingly curious and interested in learning more about Israel, Iranians have limited access to information about the genesis of Israel or Jewish history in general.
