Legal Advocacy for Human Rights

This course will  focus  on  practical  strategies lawyers and aspiring legal professionals can implement for  human  rights  advocacy,  tailored  to  the  Iranian  context. Participants  will evaluate  different  avenues  for  advocacy,  including  litigation,  legal  reform,  and  social change, and how to strategically press for change on multiple levels. They will examine how best to deal with Iranian laws and institutions that could pose challenges to their work. Topics will also include: defining a scope of services, including choice of clients and case types; safe and suitable methods of outreach and networking; ensuring sufficient funding; client relations; and self-care and protection.
