Session 1: Mental health of political prisoners

In this session, we discussed mental health as the intersection of society, culture, and politics. We examined the psychosocial consequences of political imprisonment and the collective impact of political detention on society. We then delved into the psychological effects of imprisonment and torture, as well as the role of stigma in marginalizing political prisoners. We challenged the issue of identity versus self-alienation, continued with a discussion on political commitment and its protective role, and finally explored the role of alternative narratives in contrast to the dominant governmental narrative.
