Session 2: Mental health challenges after release from political prison

In this session, we will explore the psychological challenges faced by political prisoners after release. We will examine post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in former political prisoners, discuss various paths following traumatic events, and consider therapeutic approaches in this context. We will analyze importation and deprivation models to explain psychological disorders among prisoners, discuss the role of identity and meaning-making after release, and conclude with an in-depth explanation of the risks of medicalizing or psychologizing the experiences of political prisoners.
