Labor Rights and Labor Organizing I

Labor Rights and Labor Organizing

This course addresses labor rights while also providing a comparative analysis of labor movements around the world and discussing the role of international labor unions. In this course, civic minded Iranians interested in their country’s labor rights situation and its movements explore the historical development of labor rights; international labor standards and the provisions of human rights law accompanying them; the International Labor Organization; the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work; freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining; and protection mechanisms for defending labor rights in repressive regime contexts such as Iran. Students develop a practical understanding of the components of international labor standards and utilize that knowledge to build and improve strategies of their civic activism and labor organizing.
