In this session, we will look into the possibility of using modern techniques in analyzing the ayah of the Qur’an and into the understanding that will emerge if we examine the Qur’an using modern methodologies. For example, if our understanding of the language is the same as that of the traditional commentators and scholars of traditional jurisprudence, we will come away with one meaning of the language and expressions in the Qur’an. If, however, we search for an understanding of the language of the ayat in the Qur’an, we will come away with a completely different understanding. In this session, we will also explain the extent to which multiple interpretations of the Qur’an are possible. Nevertheless, it should not be thought that the possibilities for interpretation of the Qur’an are endless. To sum up, interpretations of the Qur’an, as with any other text, are necessarily limited in their scope of possibilities.
