Sam was shot and killed when he was writing slogans on the city walls in Khorramabad on 9 November 2022. Lots of citizens gathered in mourning at his funeral two days later, on 11 November. The agents attacked the mourners and opened fire on citizens. Sam had asked people to come to the streets and protest in his last Instagram story. “I come out first and before everyone, and I expect you to join,” he had written. Trying to quiet people, the police force arrested an officer for killing Sam. The government authorities offered money to Sam’s family as compensation, which they have denied. Sam’s Chehelom (mourning ceremony) was held in Khorram Abad on December 15, under strict security surveillance.
