Lesson 3: Creating Facebook Networks and Citizen Journalism Websites

In this session, Alireza Rezaei discusses the migration of bloggers to social networks. He examines the events before and after the 2009 presidential elections in Iran and the role of “Facebook” and blogs in these events. During this period, Facebook played an important role and many protests and slogans were proposed on Facebook. It can also be said that the first citizen journalism circles in Iran arose on Facebook during this period. The novel type of news reporting on social networks led to the creation of a citizen journalism website where people could share news and information; “Khodnevis” website was established for this purpose. In addition to “Facebook”, activists in Iran and other countries use social networks like “Twitter” and “Google Plus” as well.
